The first Warcaster in this experiment is Kommander Harkevich The Iron Wolf. Looking at him he has a spell list that seems to be half melee oriented and half shooting oriented and most players wont be able to wrap their heads around how to most effectively use this bearded goggled Warcaster.
The thing I have learned with Harkevich is not that you want him to excel at one thing or another. You want him to be decent at two things and sync them together for something frighteningly effective in the end. On one hand you want him to be lobbing as many AOEs down field as possible. I find that the most effective is between 6-8 per turn. In this respect accuracy isn't as important as quantity.
If you pair him and his Jacks with some Widowmakers with Greylords for mobile cover, A Koldun lord for extra Focus when you need it, and maybe a Drachun you have a highly effective hard hitting force. You saturate the field with AOEs, snipe with the Widowmakers while keeping them clouded, then once your opponent is within charge range you broadside, escort, feat and gleefully listen to the gnashing of teeth.
There you have it. That is my opinion on Harkevich. I honestly do think he is a better Warcaster then people give him credit for. I hope that this little tidbit helps out in list construction and game play.
Until next time -
