Opfor: Forward Kommander Sorscha Krakitoff
This game was nearly a mirror match. My opponent had less infantry and solos then I did though but also had Behemoth and Kovnik Joe. Neither of us could win on scenario due to how we had placed ourselves so both armies found themselves in a meat grinder in the middle of the board. My opponent thought he had lost the game when he feated with his caster and failed to kill mine while leaving a charge lane open to him. When I feated I failed to hill his caster by 1 box, leaving me open for a quick kill as he had decimated my WGI when he did go for his assassination run. Overall I would say it was a really good matchup
Me: Karchev the Terrible
Opfor: Vyros Incissar of the Dawnguard
This game was essentially over on the end of the first round of combat, yet dragged on for 2 more grueling turns. Essentially my opponents forces crossed the table in one turn, I moved what I coudl to engage, then on the 2nd turn they destroyed almost everything except my battlegroup. My battlegroup held for a turn, y opponent scored 3 CPs, then I backed Karchev into the kill box to let him win without giving up my battlegroups points. Was it a dick move, yes. Did I do it because of how much fun I wasn't having in this match-up at all, yes but with a reason. I would have used Karchev to go out in a blaze of glory had my opponent not been telling everyone who would listen how great of a match-up this was for him. I think if you are to win, win with dignity, if you loose, loose with dignity, but when the person who is winning, and essentially beating their opponents head against a wall starts telling people mid game how great of a match-up it is, then being a good sport and going out in a blaze of glory just went out the window and it time to deny army points to you.
Me: Kommander Sorscha
Opfor: Kromac the Ravenous
This was an interesting game of a Beast heavy army against infantry. overall the match was awkward as the WGI couldnt effectively pick off the beasts and the beasts were only pinking the WGI, until it happened...... A Warpwolf Stalker charged in and beserked....... after the dust had cleared, one infantryman, the officer and the standard bearer still stood. My opponent won the game on CPs as I didnt have the fprces left to push him off. It was a very good game.
Me: Karchev the Terrible
Opfor: Major Victoria Haley
This was my "Surprise upset" of the day. My opponent had roughly the following list:
System: Warmachine
Faction: Cygnar
Casters: 1/1
Points: 42/50
Major Victoria Haley (*5pts)
* Thorn (8pts)
* Stormwall (19pts)
Greygore Boomhowler & Co. (Boomhowler and 9 Grunts) (9pts)
* Captain Jonas Murdoch (2pts)
Lady Aiyana & Master Holt (4pts)
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution (3pts)
Stormsmith Stormcaller (1pts)
Stormsmith Stormcaller (1pts)
I know there was more, but this is all I recall of it. On turn 1 the Stormwall walked up towards my widowmakers and Fenris on my left flank, as did one of the Stormsmiths. Torn and Haley came up the middle supported by Boomhowler and Eiryss advanced on my right, I ran my Reavers to the middle of the board, sniped at the Stormwall while running Fenris towards one of the Stormcallers and I advanced, towing my jacks up the middle behind the reavers, Boomhowler and Co shot up the reavers the next turn then dug in leaving me no real targets for my next turn, so I upkept tow, dumped 3 focus on Behemoth's sub cortex and 2 on Black Ivan, then advanced Karchev and used Arcantric Turbine for +2 movement, spun around, had Behemoth and Black Ivan closest to Haley, Behemoth killed her with 2 boosted Bombard shots. Game was over in 17 minutes due to a fluke victory on a 2 hour round. My opponent and I sat and talked for a while about hobbying and the Nova open.... it was interesting.
I hate Epic Vyros
Karchev Gunboat is interesting and needs tweaks
P sorscha is pretty damned good
Doom Reavers hate me
So, how should I weak these lists for better performance?
Lets start with Karchev:
System: Warmachine Faction: Khador Casters: 1/1 Points: 50/50 Karchev the Terrible (*5pts) * Behemoth (13pts) * Black Ivan (10pts) * War dog (1pts) Battle Mechaniks (Leader and 5 Grunts) (3pts) Man-o-war Shocktroopers (Leader and 2 Grunts) (6pts) Man-o-war Shocktroopers (Leader and 2 Grunts) (6pts) Widowmakers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (4pts) Fenris (5pts) Man-o-war Drakhun (with dismount) (5pts) Widowmaker Marksman (2pts) System: Warmachine Faction: Khador Casters: 1/1 Points: 50/50 Kommander Sorscha (*5pts) * Beast-09 (11pts) * Juggernaut (7pts) Battle Mechaniks (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts) Greylord Ternion (Leader and 2 Grunts) (4pts) Widowmakers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (4pts) Winter Guard Infantry (Leader and 9 Grunts) (6pts) * Winter Guard Infantry Officer & Standard (2pts) * 3 Winter Guard Infantry Rocketeers (3pts) Winter Guard Rifle Corps (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts) Gorman di Wulfe, Rogue Alchemist (2pts) Koldun Lord (2pts) Kovnik Jozef Grigorovich (2pts) Widowmaker Marksman (2pts) | Essentially what I am doing here is optimizing what did work (cavalry, widowmakers, Ivan, Behemoth, Meckaniks) while shedding off what didn't for something..... beefier. In this version of the list the Widowmakers can pick off light targets while the Drachun and Fenris threaten a flank. The MoWs are harder to chew through then the Reavers were and Karchev uses a more efficient Gunboat to project out the threat of 3 decently accurate bombards. Now that that is done, lets look at what modifications I would like to make to Kommander Sorscha's list. Sorschas new list is built more around the Winterguard and suporting them. The Greylords with the Snipers work well as they give them mobile cover and close support. The WGRC can give the WGI covering fire and keep them safer from the Charge as they move up field. I think the biggest thing for me was removing the Doom Reavers as I couldn't get them to really work with any of the lists too well and they never wanted to make those annoying tough checks. I do want to thank you all for reading this, I know I was kind of long winded, but sometimes I can get that way. I also want to tank the local store for running this, The Game Vault and the TO. I had a great time and I think everyone else there did too. So until next time, Happy hunting, CJ |
